iphonefs - Google Code -
The iPhone and iPod touch misteriously lost their "Enable Disk Mode" checkbox. For no good reasons it seems. So a whole industry of hacks/apps sprung out to fill that void. It's not that those device suddenly lack the ability, it's that Apple, in their infinite wisdom, decided to save you the trouble of looking for files on your device, that you own, with your own money. Now it's fixed. Warning: extra buggy alpha release. code.google.com (2:39:23 PM - 1,536)

You know there is something really wrong in some people's head when there still is no legal Beatles download available. In 2008. It's called missed opportunity. Under the Hood, Windows 7 Is Vista's Twin - PC World -
Yawn. Microsoft admited it already: windows 7, code named WalletSqueeze, is an evolution of Vista. MS broke enough things in the XP to Vista path, they don't want to do it again. Also, the reason so many people don't want Vista is that XP works good enough. There is no real compelling reason for an upgrade. On a related note, I think MS is ripping a page off Apple's book: keep the same OS, add features, fine tune others. SImple evolution is win. www.pcworld.com (10:16:27 AM - 1,513)

YouTube - evil easter bunny -
The Easter Bunny hates you. So do Jesus and Santa Claus. Not to mention Poseidon and the tooth ferry. But none of those are featured in this short movie. It's all about the Easter Bunny. www.youtube.com (9:22:29 AM - 1,318)

Elgan: Why the iPhone will change the (PC) world, Part 2 -
What a load of crap: "Next-generation user interfaces will have no use for a mouse. All that dragging and dropping, pointing and clicking, resizing and moving will be done directly with fingers touching the screen."Riiiiiight. You know why people get office jobs instead of construction jobs? It's so they don't have to lift their arms all day long. Pointing and clicking with your finger (which is a booger bad of an idea in the smeared screen first place) is a tiring exercise. All the idiotic predictions he makes in his articles are already here. Wow! Virtual keyboards. Wow! Electronics hidden behind the monitor. Flying Off the Shelves - Books - The Stranger, Seattle's Only Newspaper -
It never downed on me people would shoplift books. Was I that uptight when I was a kid? I just bitched about the price. "What do you mean $7 for a paperback? What kind of usury is that? It's outrageous!" And then I would pay the price. www.thestranger.com (11:59:32 AM - 1,312)

McClatchy Washington Bureau | 02/18/2008 | Fears of Internet predators unfounded, study finds -
OMG up is down! All the myth about sexual internet predators lurking in the shadows are false! Run for the hills! I predict this newspiece will be ignored in a very broad fashion. Telling exerpt>: "The means of communication is new, according to Wolak, but most Internet-linked offenses are essentially statutory rape: nonforcible sex crimes against minors too young to consent to sexual relationships with adults." Translation: 2 person decided to engage in sexual relationship, but for one of them, the law says is too young to make his/her own decision, so the other is a rapist. www.mcclatchydc.com (11:29:29 AM - 1,311)

Firefox 3 Memory Usage « pavlov.net -
Amzingly detailed account of what was done to improve memory usage in Firefox 3. From finding leaks, easing extension responsiblity to really smart techniques. An also a nice comparison with Firefox 2, which is kind of a pig, and IE7, which is the mother of all fat memory pig that ever existed. Firefox gets better. IE7 is a rotten piece of crap unsafe for consumption. blog.pavlov.net (8:53:54 AM - 1,306)

Windows passwords easily bypassed over Firewire - Engadget -
The DMA feature of firewire is designed for the device to request access to the host memory without bothering with the central CPU. It means that is something connects to the firewire port, it's free to read and write any chunks of memory, and the computer won't know it. It's been speculated this would be a giant vector to hack/crack/snoop on memory, on a live computer, completely unbeknownst to it. Well, speculate no more. Sope people actually do it. Now for the bone headed comment: ...other researchers say that it's not a traditional vulnerability, since direct memory access is a feature of Firewire. It's probably out of context. It probably means something else. Probably. www.engadget.com (3:58:10 PM - 1,303)

AppleInsider | Steve Jobs pans Flash on the iPhone -
The bloatware excuse: Flash was originally designed to be fast and efficient. the plugin was light and the applications were tiny. But just as mid-size cars have doubled weight in the last 20 years, Flash had bloated 100 fold times it's footprint. Of course it won't run on the iPhone. Of course Apple does not want it there. Of course Adobe is unable to port it. On top of that, the article's undertone seems to highlight that Flash is only good for web advertizement and Safari provides a desktop like experience. If it was not so retarded I would laugh. www.appleinsider.com (2:16:33 PM - 1,302)

Nice motherfuckers at Apple apparently use lame techniques to keep the shit diggers from debugging some sensitive processes. Like iTunes. Fat chances. If it's executing in memory, all bets are lost. steike.com (1:47:25 PM - 1,299)

BBC NEWS | Technology | Final goodbye for early web icon -
Netscape died years ago. On the day AOL bought it. Everyone left the company, the code was made open-source, then totally gutted and Mozilla/Firefox was born. Later, Netscape spun their Netscape broser off the Mozilla code, only with less features and shittier (removed the pop-up blocker? What a good idea!) and now Netscape is officially dead. Maybe they put some pepper in their hanky? news.bbc.co.uk (10:12:59 AM - 1,298)

There's a reason Google's the best -
The reason is that it's good at searching, that's what people want, on the flip side, it's good at selling advertizement, that's what the people with a financial stake in Google want. These stupid screenshots mean nothing. Google.com = search engine. Aol and Yahoo like a lot of others like MSN and all the dead ones (home.com, excite.com etc) are portals. Portals maybe has hip as your grandmother Buick, but they don't just compete in the search business. Just as Google does not give a shit about cluttering your screen with weather and local news. It's like comparing Wal*Mart to Starbucks, THEY DON'T DO THE SAME THING! farm3.static.flickr.com (10:02:19 AM - 1,297)
